Coach set with four intermediate coaches for the gas turbine multiple unit class 602 of the German Federal Railways. Supplementary set consisting of two compartment coaches, one dining coach and one kitchen coach. ■ AC version Because the performance of the diesel-powered VT 11.5 (class 601) proved insufficient, four end cars were converted to gas turbine drive in 1971, the most striking feature of which was the large air intakes in front of the driver's cab which supplied the turbine with air. These defects rendered operation of these trains increasingly uneconomical, which is why the multiple units running under the designation class 602 were taken out of service again by the DB in 1978 and 1979. Only the end car 602 003 has been preserved for museum purposes. It can now be found in the DB Museum in Nuremberg.
